BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its player of the week honors for October 8, 2012.
Deaunte
Mason (Alabama A&M) extends his offensive player award to four consecutive weeks while Jer-ryan Harris (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) received defensive honors.
Isaiah Crowell (Alabama State) earned the newcomer award and teammate Bobby Wenzig (Alabama State) repeated
as the league's top specialist for his efforts during week six.
Offensive Player of the Week
Deaunte Mason
Alabama A&M

Receiving his fourth consecutive Offensive Player of the Week award, Mason helped push Alabama A&M to 6-0 on the season with a 35-0 win at Mississippi Valley. Mason connected 21-of-32 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, he scored two more touchdowns, finishing with 13 yards on four carries. For the game, Mason targeted eight different receivers and has not thrown an interception on the year.
Defensive Players of the Week
Jer-ryan Harris
Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Harris earned the Defensive Player of the Week title after leading UAPB's defensive efforts in a 34-24 home victory over Jackson State. He tied a team high with 15 tackles while recovering one fumble and recording a quarterback hurry. UAPB's defense held JSU to seven points in the first half while forcing four turnovers for the game. In the fourth quarter, UAPB's defense helped secure the win stopping JSU on a 4th-and-1 situation before forcing a fumble from a quarterback sack on the Tigers' ensuing and final drive.
Newcomer of the Week
Isaiah Crowell

Crowell earns his first SWAC weekly award after helping Alabama State to a 45-0 win at home over Texas Southern. He accounted for 149 of ASU's 293 yards on the ground. He tacked on 17 carries for an 8.8 average and one touchdown. He also recorded a career long 63-yard score while leading ASU in all-purpose yeards.
Specialist of the Week
Bobby Wenzig
Alabama State

Wenzig receives his fourth weekly award and his second in that many weeks after managing Alabama State's special teams unit in a 45-0 win at home over Texas Southern. He recorded a career high in three categories scoring nine points on the day. He tallied five punts for a 48.8 average while landing a career-high, four, inside the 20. He executed another career mark with three touchbacks averaging 63.4 yards per kickoff. Wenzig notched another career-high, connecting six PATs, for a second straight week. He also made 1-of-3 field goals hitting a 28-yarder.
