MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama State University dropped a 3-0 non-conference decision to Kennesaw State on Tuesday in Lochart Gymnasium.

ASU (1-18) gave up set scores of 22-25, 16-25, 25-27, while hitting .230 for the match.

Chelsey Scott posted nine kills and Myla Marshall added eight to lead the Lady Hornets. Amber Bennett registered a team-high hitting .444 with six kills.

Brooke Beasley finished with 26 assists and Khryssnee Madison had six digs. ASU had seven blocks while KSU ended the match with three. Bennett and Beasley led ASU with two blocks apiece.

KSU(13-7) was led by Jenna Wilt's 11 kills and Baylee Strachan followed with 10 kills. KSU finished the game hitting .319 and Strachan hit .643 to lead the field. Sara Metroka had a game-high 35 assists and Emily Bean had eight digs.

In the first set, both teams held the lead before the frame was tied at 18. KSU used a 5-0 run to extended its advantage 23-18 before ASU answered, cutting the lead, 23-20, after two KSU errors.

Three errors eventually decided the final outcome of the set. KSU held game point in front, 24-20. However, another pair of KSU errors helped ASU close the margin, 24-22, behind a block assist from Beasley and Marshall. But the Lady Hornets followed with a service error to hand the Owls the first game, 25-22.

The Owls controlled the second set from the start jumping out to a 6-0 lead. ASU fell victim to a 15-10 run by the Owls and trailed 21-10 lead. ASU scored on six opportunities down the stretch but could not overcome the early deficit, losing the game, 25-16.


In the third frame, ASU fell behind 17-10 lead before using a 7-1 run to narrow the gap, 18-17, behind Marshall and Beasley.


KSU again was able to build a lead and actually led 24-20. Again, the Lady Hornets bounced back courtesy of a block from Marshall to even the score at 24.


Each team excahnged points to send the frame into 'extra points'. With the score even at 25, KSU would benefit from ASU's back-to-back service and hitting error to end the set and match, 27-25.
