PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Audrey Sherles recorded a game high 22 kills help lead the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff over Mississippi Valley State, 3-1, on Tuesday (9/18) inside the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
UAPB (2-6) captured the match in four sets, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-15. Alicia Campbell and Jordan Foyer registered double-doubles to help the Lady Lions finish with 64 kills. Campbell tallied 15 kills and 16 digs while Foyer posted 24 assists and 10 digs. Alexis Lowe dished out a game high 28 assists and Ashlie Jones tacked on 10 kills.
MVSU (1-7) was led by Taylor Delaire's 13 kills followed by April Brown's 22 assists and 11 digs. Alexandria Garland and Chylia each registered 10 digs to help the Devilettes on the defensive end.
Tennessee Martin 3, Alabama A&M 1
MARTIN, Tenn. - Alabama A&M University could not keep the momentum after winning the first set suffering a 3-1 (25-22, 11-25, 14-25, 16-25) loss to Tennessee Martin on Tuesday (9/18) inside Skyhawk Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-15) were led by Clarissa Moore, Ashley Forman, Rebecca Cortez and Bianca Richardson. Moore and Forman recorded double-double performances. Moore finished with 11 kills and 12 digs with Forman dishing out 32 assists to complement 11 digs. Cortez tallied a team high 15 digs and Richardson added 10 kills.
In the first set, AAMU jumped out to a 3-0 lead with Moore scoring two points during the burst. The Lady Bulldogs stretched the lead to 7-2 before UTM answered with five points to even the score at seven.
After five lead changes and with the scored tied at 12, AAMU jumped on an 8-1 run to stretch the lead 20-13. The Skyhawks answered with a 5-2 advantage to close in on AAMU's lead, 22-18. AAMU held a 24-20 lead and gave up four points during the stretch. The Lady Bulldogs secured the set after the Skyhawks threatened, 25-22.
For the match, AAMU finished with 38 kills, four blocks and a .144 attack percentage. UTM (3-9) was powered by Lynsey Hazelwood and Emily Keaton's double-double. Both players combined for 34 of the Skyhawks' 54 kills recording 17 apiece. Hazelwood tallied 10 digs and Keaton notched 12. Brandy Dennis finished 39 assists while Kasey Elswick added 19 digs. Chelsea Bowles also finished in double figures in digs with 11.
Next, AAMU will host Alabama State in Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division play. The match-up is scheduled for Thursday, September 27, at 7:00 p.m. CST inside T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

AUSTIN, Texas -The Prairie View A&M women's volleyball team snapped an eight-game losing streak by picking up a 3-0 win over Huston-Tillotson Tuesday night in Austin.
The combination of junior setter Kelsey Espinosa and freshman right side hitter Rachel Owens paid dividends for the Lady Panthers as Espinosa finished with 31 assists, and Owens tallied a career-high .421 attack percentage and 10 kills.
The Lady Panthers struggled with the Rams in the first set. PVAM had a .043 attack percentage in the first set, with 11 errors to go along with their 13 kills to win the opening frame 25-23.
Prairie View A&M made adjustments in the second and third sets to cut down errors. The Lady Panthers went on to finish 25-11 and 25-18 to complete the sweep.
Sophomore libero LaKeisha Allen (15 digs) and senior outside hitter Breanna McNeil (eight kills, 10 digs) provided defensive stability. Sophomore middle Charae Caldwell tacked on seven kills and two block assists.
The Lady Panthers look build momentum when the jump into their SWAC opener against Grambling State. The match will be held on Thursday, September 20 in the William Nicks Building.
